Construction of this cathedral began in 1211, with the result being a modern day showcase of High Gothic architecture and art. The facade is comprised of three grand entrances, a stained glass rose window crafted in the 13th century and numerous sculptures. Reims Cathedral was historically prominent, as it was the site of coronation for 24 French kings, including Charles VII in 1429 in the presence of Joan of Arc. The cathedral was severely damaged during World War I. Reconstruction commenced later and contemporary additions have been made, including stained glass windows by French artist Marc Chagall.
